Women of Campbell Social Justice Fund: How we’re giving back this Women’s History Month

Community

We’re proud of our long history of gender diversity. It was back in 1961 when Margaret Rudkin, the founder of Pepperidge Farm, became the first woman to serve on Campbell’s Board of Directors.

Today, Women of Campbell—our employee resource group (ERG)—is dedicated to helping women across Campbell achieve their personal and professional goals. The Campbell Soup Foundation and members of Women of Campbell created the Women of Campbell Social Justice Fund to support organizations empowering success. And to celebrate Women’s History Month this month, all employee donations to this fund in March will be matched 100% by the Foundation.

Closing the gender gap in tech

One of the organizations we’re supporting in this fund is Girls Who Code, which is on a mission to close the gender gap in tech. Girls Who Code reports that only 24% of computer scientists are women, a number that has dropped more than 10% in the last two decades.

At Campbell, our Research & Development and Technology teams are made up of many women whose diverse experiences and perspectives play a huge role in the success of our company. Brighid Lee, a Process Optimization Analyst on our R&D team and a co-lead for Women of Campbell, is eager for the day “where women thriving in tech is the norm, not the exception.”

Helping women thrive at work

The other organization the fund benefits is Dress for Success, a global not-for-profit that empowers women to achieve economic independence. They provide a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

Members of Women of Campbell lean on the ERG’s network of women for both professional and personal support. “I’m grateful for this network’s support as my career’s progressed,” said Dervela O’Brien, Sales Communications Manager and the Culture Lead & Steering Committee Member for Women of Campbell.

It’s important to employees like Dervela to give back to an organization like Dress for Success that’s providing a similar network for other women looking to grow their careers.

When one woman succeeds, we all succeed

Recently, Campbell was named to the 2021 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index for our commitment to transparency in gender reporting and advancing women’s equality. The Women of Campbell Social Justice Fund is another way we’re showing our support and giving back to organizations that are advancing equity and learning in the communities where we have operations.

“At Women of Campbell, we strive to support and empower women and girls of all ages and all backgrounds,” said Etana Pizzo, Women of Campbell chair and Talent Experience Manager. “Because when one of us succeeds, we all succeed.”

Our Inclusion & Diversity (I&D) strategy includes a focus on advocacy. As part of that effort, we’ve created social justice funds for our ERGs to support our advocacy by strengthening our ally networks and communities where we live and work. The Women of Campbell fund is the fourth fund to launch. To date, other funds include our Black Resource Group Social Justice Fund, Latino Network Social Justice Fund, and our Veterans Connection Fund.
